The purpose of this blog is to stay connected with my friends and family while I transition from Delaware to Maryland to Uganda and beyond. I'd like to use this forum to share my experiences and record my adventures while serving as an Economic Development Volunteer in the Peace Corps.

Procrastination

I don't have anything exciting to blog about, but I just DON'T feel like packing anymore. If I've learned anything from this experience, I've learned that if you have a week to pack, it'll take a week to pack. Since I last posted, I've quit my job (woohoo!), attended the second-annual Family Bay Day (woop woop), and.... packed. Leaving your job, packing up your house to leave the state, only to turn around to leave the country for an extended period of time is no easy logistical feat.
I've been living in piles and have only recently made serious progress getting those piles into boxes, bags or containers. I have my Uganda luggage picked out and partially packed. I've loaded my kindle for free with the help of a savvy coworker (now I just need to go through and organize it!). I've sold my couches and bookcase on craigslist and have a dresser, coffee table and stool on craiglist now. Anyone need anything? The only furniture I plan to store is my bed, 1 dresser and armoire. I have my moving truck and storage unit reserved and my mail forwarded. I even took all of my loose change to the grocery store 'coinstar' machine and got a $19.88 gift card to itunes (no charge to convert your change to a gift card- pretty cool!). I'm doing everything that I can think of aside from packing. I haven't even started with the kitchen. I think I need packing materials to keep the dishes from sloshing around and breaking... I only have a little newspaper left. I have 2 empty suitcases that I plan on using to store my kitchenware in addition to a few boxes. I have a small apt, it shouldn't be taking me this long...
Later today I'm headed to Frederick with a carload of stuff. Mostly stuff I'll need in the next month + my Africa gear, and stuff for family/friends. I literally had to sit on my suitcase to get it to zip earlier. Tonight I'm headed to Arlington to see some stand up (don't know the guys name but apparently he's a regular on 'Chelsea Lately.' Saturday I *might* to the US Open with my friend Susanna. Sunday (happy father's day!!!), I'm headed back to Wilma for the last packing push, going to the dentist early Monday morning, and packing up and heading to MD on Tues. After everything is in storage, I'll drop the truck off on Wed and head to Harper's Ferry with some friends to go tubing, one of my favorite summer pastimes. From there, I need to make one more trip to DE to clean the apt. and deliver the keys to my landlord... and then I'm outta Wilminghole for good!!! The following week, I'm headed to Asheville, NC to visit the old CofC girls from 6/28- 7/1 (anyone wanna take me/pick me up from BWI???) :)  Looking forward to that trip. And REALLY looking forward to the whole month of JULY spent with you guys!!! xoxoxo
Welp, I apologize for the lengthy, stream of consciousness post....Guess I'll get back to the kitchen. I'll try to resist the urge to shop online for snazzy shoes for Uganda.
Much love,
e
PS- I think I really did fix the comment settings this time. It shouldn't be hard to leave a comment now- sorry about that. I'm new to all this blogging nonsense.
