The purpose of this blog is to stay connected with my friends and family while I transition from Delaware to Maryland to Uganda and beyond. I'd like to use this forum to share my experiences and record my adventures while serving as an Economic Development Volunteer in the Peace Corps.

Pick up lines...

There are few 'stubborn' men in Pajule that would probably like to make me their wife on account that I'm from America and am something of a novelty in the village. Culturally, it's accepted when men often openly flirt with women and women are expected to decline their advances many times before finally giving in. It's a kind of play hard-to-get game. Well, I'm not 'playing hard to get,' but it takes some time for them to realize.

A few months ago, I would get text messages referencing passages from the bible as support for a relationship... 'Man should not stay in the home alone,' 'Woman was created from the rib of Adam...' stuff like that.

The other day someone asked me when I would have them over for supper and then told me that they 'wanted to be close to me like Jesus Christ.'

Pretty funny stuff.
